Google Dreambeans Lands in India in 13 Languages

Google just took its most personal AI experiment abroad. Dreambeans India is now live as the app’s first market outside the United States, with support for 13 local languages alongside English.

India is the world’s second-largest internet market. And Dreambeans is not another chatbot: it reads the Google apps you connect and brews a finite set of illustrated stories for you each morning — no prompt, no endless feed.

The expansion was announced on Monday, November 2 in the U.S., and reported in India on November 3. Google product manager Gozde Oznur told reporters India stood out for its high overlap of users across Gemini, Gmail, and Google Photos.

What Dreambeans actually does

Dreambeans is an experimental app from Google Labs. With your permission, it connects information from the services you choose and uses Personal Intelligence to curate a daily collection of stories about what matters to you.

  • Calendar — upcoming trips, events, and deadlines.
  • Gmail — bookings, birthdays, and things buried in email.
  • Google Photos — memories and places you have visited.
  • Search, YouTube, and Gemini — topics you follow and videos you started.

Google’s official description says the app uses Personal Intelligence and Nano Banana 2, its image model. You must connect at least one app, and the first collection takes up to a day to prepare, according to Google’s official Dreambeans page. Google recently added a Veo feature that animates images in select stories.

The India launch, in numbers

India is Dreambeans’ first international market. The app is available on Android and iOS for users aged 18 and older, with personal Gmail accounts only — not enterprise accounts.

The 13 local languages are Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Assamese, and Nepali. Some outlets count 14 languages in total because they include English. Both counts describe the same launch.

Here is the catch. Users can select only one language at a time for generated stories. The app can draw on services in multiple languages, but it cannot currently mix languages inside a single story — a real limit in a market where many people switch between Hindi and English in the same sentence.

Why India, and why now

Dreambeans U.S. download estimates: about 55,000 since June, about 5,500 in October, down 84 percent

Milestone Date What changed
U.S. debut June 3, 2026 Google AI Ultra subscribers, 18+, in the U.S.
U.S. widening September 10, 2026 All eligible U.S. users aged 18+
India launch November 2026 First market outside the U.S., 13 local languages

Source: Google’s Dreambeans launch post for the June debut; TechCrunch reporting of Google’s briefing for the India expansion and the estimates below.

The U.S. numbers explain the urgency. Sensor Tower estimates shared with TechCrunch put U.S. downloads at nearly 55,000 since June, with about 63% in September. October then fell about 84% month over month, to about 5,500. In the first 30 days after the U.S. opening, Dreambeans recorded an estimated 29,000 downloads — against 7.4 million for Meta’s Muse and 2.8 million for ChatGPT in their first 30 days.

That comparison is not apples to apples, but the direction is clear: the U.S. test stalled after its opening month, and India is the next test.

The privacy trade-off, stated plainly

Dreambeans: 13 local languages, one language per story, finite daily set not a feed

Dreambeans only works if you hand it personal context, and that context can be sensitive. Google says you control it: pick individual services and disconnect them at any time, delete your data in the app, and tell the app to avoid subjects such as business topics.

Stories are visible only to the account holder. One risk Google flags: a proactive memory app can surface people who have died — set your avoid-list before the first drop.

How to profit from the Dreambeans India launch

  1. Sell localized personalization, not translation. Build content in one language at a time, with local examples — that is how Google’s own product works today.
  2. Build finite daily products. A short, finished daily briefing beats an endless feed for retention. Charge for the curation, not the volume.
  3. Offer privacy-first setup. Help creators connect only the services a tool needs and set deletion routines. That is a sellable service at every personal-AI launch.
  4. Watch India’s month-two numbers. If downloads hold past month one — unlike the U.S. October drop — localized personal AI is a real channel. If not, copy the feature, not the platform.
