Starting a blog sounds technical. It isn’t — not anymore. With Hostinger’s 1-click WordPress installer, you can go from “I have an idea” to a live, working blog in about 15 minutes. Here’s every step, in order, with nothing skipped.
What you need before you start
Three things, all handled inside Hostinger’s checkout:
- A hosting plan — Premium (~$2.99/month intro) is the sweet spot for a new blog: 100 sites, free domain for a year, free SSL.
- A domain name — included free for the first year on Premium and up. Pick something short, memorable, and `.com` if you can.
- About 15 minutes and a coffee.
That’s it. No coding, no server knowledge, no design skills required yet.
Step 1: Grab your Hostinger plan (3 minutes)
Head to Hostinger and pick the Premium plan — it’s the best value for a first blog. Choose the 48-month term for the lowest monthly rate, or a shorter term if you’d rather not prepay that far ahead. (Shorter terms cost more per month — that’s the tradeoff.)

During checkout you’ll create your Hostinger account. Use an email you actually check — important account notices go there.
Step 2: Claim your free domain (2 minutes)
After payment, Hostinger prompts you to claim your free domain. Type in your desired name and check availability.
Quick domain tips:
- Keep it under 15 characters if possible
- Avoid hyphens and numbers — they’re forgettable and look spammy
- `.com` beats everything else for a general audience
- Say it out loud — if you have to spell it, pick another one
Claim it and move on. DNS setup is automatic; you don’t need to touch anything.
Step 3: Install WordPress with 1 click (2 minutes)
This is the part that used to take an afternoon. In your Hostinger dashboard (hPanel):

- Go to Websites → Add Website
- Choose WordPress
- Enter an admin email, username, and a strong password — save these somewhere safe
- Select your new domain
- Hit install
About 60 seconds later, WordPress is live. You’ll get links to your site and to `yourdomain.com/wp-admin` — that’s your control room from now on.
Step 4: Secure the basics (3 minutes)
Log in to `/wp-admin` and knock out these four settings:
- Settings → General — check your site title and tagline say what you want
- Settings → Permalinks — switch to Post name. This makes your URLs clean (`yoursite.com/my-article` instead of `?p=123`) and it’s better for SEO. Do this now, not later.
- Settings → Discussion — decide whether you want comments on (fine for a blog starting out)
- Delete the defaults — trash the “Hello world!” post and “Sample Page”. Every WordPress install ships with them; every real blog deletes them.
SSL is already active and free — check for the padlock icon in your browser. If it’s not there yet, give it a few minutes to provision.
Step 5: Pick a theme and the only plugins you need (3 minutes)
Theme: Go to Appearance → Themes → Add New and install Astra (free). It’s fast, clean, and doesn’t get in your way. You can customize colors and fonts later in Appearance → Customize.
Plugins (Plugins → Add New — install just these to start):
- Rank Math SEO — handles your SEO basics: titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps
- Wordfence Security — free firewall and login protection
- UpdraftPlus — free automated backups (set it to back up weekly to Google Drive)
- LiteSpeed Cache — free speed optimization, pre-configured to work with Hostinger’s servers
That’s it. Do not install 20 plugins “just in case” — every plugin is a potential slowdown and security surface. Add more only when you have a specific need.
Step 6: Publish your first post (2 minutes)
Posts → Add New. Write a short intro post — who you are, what the blog covers, what readers should expect. Hit Publish.
Congratulations — you now run a live WordPress blog.
If something goes wrong
Two common hiccups and their fixes: if your domain shows a parking page instead of your site, wait up to 24 hours — DNS propagation is normal and fixes itself. If WordPress shows a database connection error right after install, don’t panic: go back to hPanel, remove the website, and run the 1-click installer once more. In three years of setting up test sites, a second install attempt has fixed it every time. And remember, Hostinger’s 24/7 chat can walk you through anything above in minutes.
Your launch checklist (save this)
- [ ] Hosting plan active (Premium or Business)
- [ ] Free domain claimed and resolving
- [ ] WordPress installed via 1-click
- [ ] Permalinks set to “Post name”
- [ ] Default post and page deleted
- [ ] SSL padlock showing in browser
- [ ] Astra theme installed
- [ ] Rank Math, Wordfence, UpdraftPlus, LiteSpeed Cache installed
- [ ] First post published
What to do next (after the 15 minutes)
- Write 5–10 solid posts before telling anyone the blog exists — visitors who find one lonely post don’t come back
- Set up Google Search Console (free) so Google can find and index your content
- Create an About page and Contact page — they build trust with readers and with Google
- Back up once, then automate it — UpdraftPlus to Google Drive, weekly, and forget about it
The technical part is done. From here it’s all content — which is the part that actually grows a blog.
