A pull request that used to wait 20 minutes for an AI review now gets one in 6 to 10 minutes. That’s the headline as Anthropic takes Claude Code Review out of research preview and into general availability for Claude Team and Enterprise — announced October 15, 2026. Several agents read each change, a verification step filters false positives, findings get ranked by severity, and everything posts as inline comments with a summary and check run.

What changed for general availability
Anthropic grouped the GA upgrades into three areas. Speed: most reviews finish about 3x faster — roughly 20 minutes in preview down to 6–10 minutes. Quality: findings are shorter, stating the problem, trigger, and fix in a few sentences. Flexibility: admins assign each repository a Quick, Standard (default), or Deep review level.
The company runs Code Review on its own pull requests too. Preview users said it was catching real issues before a human looked at a PR — they wanted reviews quieter, sized to each change, and faster.
How a review actually works
Per Anthropic’s official documentation, every review runs on Anthropic infrastructure in four stages:
The four-stage review pipeline
Two guardrails matter for client work. Repository access is read-only — reviews never push commits and work from the diff without building or running code. A review never approves or blocks the pull request: the merge decision stays with your team, and a clean review doesn’t mean bug-free code.

Quick vs. Standard vs. Deep: picking the level
Depth is now a dial, not a switch. An Owner chooses one level for the organization and can override it per repository — Quick for routine code, Deep for the payments service. Deeper reviews cost more.
Source: Claude Code docs (official). By default, reviews focus on correctness — bugs that would break production — not formatting or missing test coverage. Tune what gets flagged with REVIEW.md and CLAUDE.md; note REVIEW.md is read from the base or default branch, never from the PR’s own changes.
Triggering is flexible: reviews run when a PR opens, after every push, or on request. Anyone with write access can also comment @claude review to start one. Drafts and forks are excluded from automatic reviews.
The credit offer: $10,000 to $50,000 on the table
Eligible paid Claude Enterprise organizations can claim $10,000 to $50,000 in Code Review credits, set at claim time based on active Claude Code seats (help center):
- Claim window: October 15, 2026 through January 15, 2027 — last moment 23:59 UTC on January 15.
- One claim per org: an Owner or Primary Owner claims once from Code Review settings. It can’t be undone, and it starts your 30 days immediately — set up repos before claiming.
- 30-day expiry: credits last 30 days from the claim or until used up. While credits remain, reviews can run even at a $0 spend limit.
- Not covered: the self-hosted GitHub Action, Code Review on GitHub Enterprise Server, the /code-review and /ultrareview commands, and other Claude usage.
- Excluded: reseller-billed orgs, GitHub Enterprise Server or data-residency instances, trials and lapsed subscriptions, Team/Pro/Max/Free plans, and zero-data-retention orgs.
An Enterprise client can run a serious volume of AI reviews free for a month. If you’re the one who sets it up, you’re the one they remember.
How to profit: 4 plays for freelancers and agencies
1. Sell “Code Review setup” packages
Most teams won’t read the docs. Offer a fixed-fee setup: install the GitHub App, choose repos, set Quick/Standard/Deep per repo, write the REVIEW.md, wire the triggers. The credit offer is your foot in the door — “I’ll get your free credits working before the January deadline.”
2. Add AI review to your dev retainers
Agencies lose margin when senior devs burn hours on routine PR reviews. Put Code Review first, let humans review only what the AI flags, and ship client work faster without hiring.
3. Catch the bug before the client does
Production bugs cost the most — in refunds, reputation, and emergency fixes. A 6–10 minute automated review on every PR is cheap insurance. Freelancers who can say “every line I ship passes automated review” charge premium rates and win clients who’ve been burned before.
4. Productize PR review audits
Run Code Review across a prospect’s busiest repos during the credit window and deliver a findings report: bug classes caught, severity mix, review hours saved. It’s a paid audit that sells the retainer — the report practically writes your proposal.
FAQ
Who can use Claude Code Review?
Claude Team and Enterprise orgs with GitHub repos — including GitHub Enterprise Server and GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency. Not on Pro, Max, or Free plans, or for zero-data-retention or HIPAA-configured orgs.
How fast are reviews, really?
Most reviews finish about 3x faster than during the preview: roughly 20 minutes down to 6–10 minutes. Deeper levels and very large pull requests take longer.
How do I start a review?
Once an Owner enables it and selects repos, reviews run automatically — on PR open, after every push, or on request. Anyone with write access can also comment @claude review to trigger one manually.
Can Code Review block or approve my pull requests?
No. The check run never concludes as a failure, and a review never approves or blocks — the merge decision stays with your team. No findings means a short “no issues found” note.
How do the promotional credits work?
Eligible Enterprise orgs claim $10,000–$50,000 (by active Claude Code seats) once, between October 15, 2026 and January 15, 2027. Credits cover Code Review usage for 30 days from the claim. Set up repos before claiming — the clock starts immediately. Terms apply.
Does it read my entire repository?
Reviews access the repo through the Claude GitHub App with read-only permissions, examining the diff and surrounding code without building or running it. Guidance comes from REVIEW.md (base or default branch) and CLAUDE.md.
